Donna Coulling - how writing feeds my soul

October 22, 2017

I’m a mum and a writer. I also have other jobs that feed my pocket and my belly, but writing is what feeds my soul.

Writing gives me a sense of value that I have a reason to be outside of my regular work and mum life. Even if I only manage to sit down for 30 minutes once or twice a week to write it makes everything feel right (no pun) and that I have a purpose.

I have a champion in my daughter who is always telling me how proud she is of her Mama. I also have a great friend who spurs me on (almost to the point of bullying!), they are my writing support group.

I think it’s essential to have someone nag you, read your work and encourage you. I write for myself of course, but I know that I work much better if I feel that I am accountable to someone.

My writing support group gives me of those things and more.
